Grants & funding

What the studio can apply for, researched 18 Sep 2026. Open a row, tick what is ready, copy the brief into an agent to draft the rest.

How to use this page
  1. Filter to yourself. Michelle, Dominic or Studio. Deadlines run soonest first; a red counter means under three weeks.
  2. Open a row and read "Who can apply". One failed rule means skip it, no matter how good the money looks.
  3. Fill in the applicant context once. The panel below has bracketed gaps: diploma date, portfolio link, KvK, stage. It lives in this browser only and goes into every brief.
  4. Tick what you already have under "Prepare". Ticks are saved on this device, so the page doubles as a to-do list.
  5. Copy the agent brief and paste it into Claude or ChatGPT. It comes back with an eligibility check, a draft for each material, and questions for you.
  6. Answer the questions, paste them back, repeat. Then submit on the official site yourself; the agent drafts, it never submits.
  7. Keep it current. "Show passed" reveals expired deadlines. The list itself is edited in the repo and redeployed.

This month, in order

  1. Submit the LOEWE Craft Prize entry

Pick the piece, shoot it, write 200 words. Free, four weeks, €50k. Michelle

Run the krijgikbbz.nl check and register with Selego for Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs. Dominic

  5. Pre-check the Amsterdamse Cultuurlening

Send one page plus portfolio before buying any gear. Studio

  6. Pull Michelle's diploma date

That date decides when Mondriaan Kunstenaar Start opens and whether Talentontwikkeling in January is the better track. Michelle

  7. Fire samples and run the €300 ad test

Book a month at Studio FICO, fire three lamp samples, shoot them, run the ad test that decides voordekunst vs Kickstarter and the loan size. Studio

Applicant context, sent with every brief

Edit once. It is stored in this browser only and pasted under "About the applicants" in each copied brief. Fill the bracketed gaps.

    NL funding for a ceramics + lighting/design brand (Amsterdam) — 2026-09-18

Nationality/residency, once for all: no Dutch fund below requires Dutch nationality except the Cultuurfonds study beurzen (Dutch OR 5+ yrs NL residence). Everything else keys on NL residence (BRP extract < 1 yr old for non-Dutch nationals at Mondriaan) and/or being "embedded in Dutch practice". US residency is irrelevant. EU citizenship (D) is irrelevant too. Legal-entity trap: Stimuleringsfonds Vormgeving needs a KvK registration; AFK excludes BVs; DOEN / Fonds 21 / VSB / Gieskes-Strijbis want a stichting. Register the JV as eenmanszaak/VOF (not BV) and keep M's art practice as her own eenmanszaak. Career-stage trap: Mondriaan Kunstenaar Start needs 1–4 yrs since the bachelor diploma; Stimuleringsfonds Talentontwikkeling needs 1–4 yrs since graduation and excludes Kunstenaar Start recipients (and autonomous artists). She must pick one track: artist (Mondriaan) or designer (SCI). Both are impossible in her first 12 months after graduation.

    Details

Mondriaan Fonds (Rijk) — artist track

    • Kunstenaar Start (= old "Werkbijdrage Jong Talent"). €24,900 lump for 12 months, free use (work, research, materials, equipment, presentations). Eligible 1–4 yrs after the HBO diploma date (or first professional presentation if no degree); a MA period counts as practice; taxable income ≤ €55k; not enrolled in a full-time programme. Non-Dutch nationals: BRP extract. Docs: vision 3p, CV 3p, 12-month plan 3p, portfolio ≤20p PDF (+15 min video), tax return, diploma. Rolling; 3 months; one award per lifetime; rejected → 12-month wait. 2025: 301 apps, 73 awards . Extras: C+O mentoring, Prospects show at Art Rotterdam. Note: a fixed Kunstenaar Project cannot follow within 12 months of Start. FAQ
    • Kunstenaar Project (= old "Projectinvestering Kunstenaar"). Fixed €2,785/mo ≤6 mo, or flexible ≤12 mo. Pays project materials, equipment rental/depreciation (not purchase outright), travel, third parties (residency fees, mentoring), artist books. ≥1 yr practice; 10% own contribution (crowdfunding or a Fonds Kwadraat loan counts). Docs: vision 3p, CV 3p, project plan 4p, portfolio 20p, budget with quotes. Rolling, 3 months, never retroactive. Good vehicle to pay the EKWC resident share later.
    • Kunstenaar Basis: €50k over 2–4 yrs, ≥4 yrs practice, 29% in 2025. Diary item for ~2029.
    • Residency: pays travel, stay, materials, 10% own share; two deadlines/yr . NL: Make Eindhoven (making/design), Drawing Centre Diepenheim, Odapark, Nesse, Kolderveen, Pompgemaal, ARE Enschede, Luceberthuis; abroad ~20 incl. Villa Kamogawa Kyoto, Atelier Holsboer Paris, ISCP NY, Wiels. EKWC is not on the list (it is an OCW-funded post-academic institution). Docs: work statement 3p, CV 3p, plan 4p, portfolio 20p. 2 residencies max per round.

Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie — designer track

    • Talentontwikkeling: €25k for one year (Sept–Nov next year) = free budget + coaching + visibility. 1–4 yrs since HBO/WO graduation, active in NL, design/architecture/digital culture (product, textile, illustration…). Excludes autonomous visual artists, prior Kunstenaar Start recipients, students. One round . First 200 complete applications are taken, ~45–55 awarded. Docs: development plan, model budget, portfolio, CV. If M wants this she must frame herself as a ceramic/product designer, not "artist".
    • Regeling Vormgeving: €10–25k solo (≤€50k with partners), KvK required, 20% third-party co-financing, notary lottery since Feb 2026 then Phase II full plan within 4 weeks. 2026 rounds closed . Design + digital culture schemes are being restructured for 2027 because of oversubscription — watch stimuleringsfonds.nl/subsidies in Dec 2026. Funds research/product development with cultural value; a purely commercial lamp line will not pass — frame as research into 3D-printed clay + slip-cast hybrids, open documentation.
    • Startregeling Vormgeving: no 2026 rounds. Budget moved into Vormgeving rounds and Open Oproep Professionalisering (€8,250 solo, ≥4 yrs practice — M ineligible until ~2029). Bouwen aan Talent: no call since 2023. "Experiment" is not a separate regeling any more; experiments go through Vormgeving.
    • Vouchers Internationaal open 8 Sep–27 Oct 2026: vouchers for presenting abroad (fairs, exhibitions) — could fund a follow-up to Paris (Collectible Brussels, Maison&Objet). Needs KvK.

    AFK — Amsterdam

    • Projectsubsidies 2026–2028 replaces both Projectsubsidies Cultuurmakers and the Ontwikkelbudget. Four categories by amount; explicitly funds "research/experiment and artistic development" of individuals living or working in Amsterdam (+ Amstelveen, Diemen, Zaanstad etc.). Cat 1–2 (≤€7.5k): monthly lottery, ~25% drawn Feb–Jun 2026, then full application within 2 weeks. Cat 3–4: first come first served with half-year ceilings; professional-art cat 3–4 is closed until 5 Jan 2027 (ceiling spent). No BVs. Portal mijn.afk.nl. Realistic first target: cat 2 (€2.5–7.5k) for a kiln/glass-experiment development plan.
    • 3Package Deal: €25k + coaching + institutional network + help with workspace/housing. No self-application — coalitions of Amsterdam institutions nominate; new cohort each September. Action: ask Rietveld/Sandberg/Foam-type contacts who sit in coalitions; the AFK posts an "open call nieuwe coalities" in spring.
    • Amsterdamse Cultuurlening (C+O with AFK money): €1k–20k at 2% over 6 yrs for durable investments (equipment, materials, presentation, training). Not for bridging expected grants. This is the cleanest route to the kiln + clay printer.

    Loans and matching

    • Fonds Kwadraat: interest-free ≤€6,000 (homepage says up to €8,000 — ask), 3 yrs, 3.5% fee, deadlines 15 Nov 2026 then ~Jan/Mar/May 2027; passport, CV, budget, portfolio, tax return; guarantor for ≥€3k. Explicitly for equipment, prototypes, residencies. Doubles as the 10% own contribution for Mondriaan.
    • C+O Cultuurlening (national): 2% up to €50k, ≤10 yrs, for investments you can earn back — the JV's studio build. Applicants from fund talent programmes or fresh graduates get fast-track; otherwise motivation + references.
    • voordekunst: all-or-nothing crowdfunding; partner matchfunding ~25% of target (AFK for Amsterdam makers, Cultuurfonds €250–1,500 ≤50% of a ≥€1,000 target, Mondriaan, VSB). Pre-selling the sister-brand's first lamp run as campaign rewards is the natural JV launch; matchfunders decide per campaign.

Private funds that do take individuals

    • Amarte: dev €2,750 / project €5,500; NL-based; visual arts + interdisciplinary (glass+ceramics+light counts); rolling, ≥7 weeks before start; short online form + budget; one application at a time; dev → project sequencing allowed.
    • Cultuurfonds individual makers (run through voordekunst): Ontwikkelbijdrage ≤€5,000 once per 3 yrs for research, courses, experiment, apparatuur; pre-application answered in 1 week, full in 4. Matchfunding as above.
    • Niemeijer Fonds: €1–5k to individual artists for experimental development; single PDF (≤10 MB) to info@stichtingniemeijerfonds.nl, subject "Application: name and amount"; apply ≥4 months before start; own contribution expected.
    • Stokroos Seed: €5k solo / €7.5k duo / €10k collective; ≥21; NL 1+ yr; craft and design explicitly welcome; graduation window shifts each round — check whether 2025/26 graduates fall inside the next call; closes after 60 eligible applications so submit on opening day. Makersinitiatieven (€25–40k) needs 5 yrs.
    • Pauwhof: only art × science combinations; email the board before applying. Possible angle: clay-printing rheology with a TU Delft/AMOLF partner.

    EKWC (Oisterwijk)

Classic residency 13 weeks; full cost €9,228 incl. VAT of which 75% covered by OCW + Provincie Noord-Brabant; resident pays ~€2,307 + ~€2,420 variable (materials, 3D printing, milling) + €100 key deposit + €35 application fee. Requires a degree plus ≥2 years independent practice (MA years excluded), solo applicants, research question + workplan, CV, portfolio; ~45 residents/cycle; AI-written applications explicitly unwelcome. Call runs 1 Jul–15 Aug each year — 2026 closed, next summer 2027 (for 2028–29). Funding stack for the resident share: Mondriaan Kunstenaar Project, Fonds Kwadraat, Cultuurfonds ontwikkelbijdrage. EKWC CoLab (industry/partner projects) is the JV's route for clay-printing R&D.

    Studio: CAWA / Bureau Broedplaatsen

CAWA is a gate, not a grant: €25 registration on the ABA portal (via Urban Resort), portfolio of 2–10 works from the last 3 years, exhibitions, recognition, ≤250-word motivation, tax assessment showing income below the norm (NV Zeedijk cites €38,150 aggregate income prior year; the amsterdam.nl "inkomensnorm" page is authoritative — check). Positive test → eligible for CAWA-ateliers in broedplaatsen at subsidised rent and the Kunstenaarshuizen Amsterdam atelierwoning waitlist. Both M and D can be tested (D as "creative professional"). Broedplaats subsidy itself (Stappenplan Broedplaatsen v6.1, 21 May 2026) funds groups founding a broedplaats with a Triodos loan — too heavy for two people; join an existing one with a kiln room (NDSM, Lely, Sloterdijk) instead.

    Prizes

DDA Emerging Talent: nomination-only, ask a Paris-show curator or an NL designer to nominate in Feb–May 2027; 3 × €10k. Nationale Keramiekprijs De KEI: €7,500, 2027, closed nomination. Ceramic Brussels prize: exactly M's profile (Europe, ≤10 yrs, no gallery), 2028 call ~mid-2027, laureates exhibit at the January fair. Ceramics Now Annual open call: portfolio-only, low effort. Sieraad is a jewellery fair — skip. Rietveld/DAE: no alumni cash funds; Rietveld runs a DDW alumni presentation and alumni residencies (Baltan) — worth a mail to alumni office, not a grant.

Dead ends (do not spend time)

DOEN (legal entities only), Fonds 21 (no individuals or sole proprietorships), Gieskes-Strijbis (ANBI legal entities, large), VSBfonds (foundations/informal groups, must centre "meeting and accessibility"), Fentener van Vlissingen (pro artists only via fixed partners since 2025, Utrecht), Van Bijlevelt (no individual artists/projects), Hendrik Muller (Dutch students and heritage), Elise Mathilde (non-profits in Rotterdam region/Utrecht), Jaap Harten (publications/documentaries about culture bearers; next round ~Sep 2027), Cultuurfonds Limburg (Limburg initiatives by legal entities; Inspiratieprijs is for Limburg heritage projects).

    Top 5 for Michelle alone

    1. Mondriaan Kunstenaar Start (€24,900) — the moment her diploma date is ≥12 months old. Next action: pull the diploma date, get a BRP extract, write the 3+3+3-page set and a 20-page portfolio led by the Paris piece and the €4k sale; submit the week she becomes eligible. If she graduated in 2025, that is 2026.
    2. AFK Projectsubsidies cat 2 (€2.5–7.5k) — enter the monthly lottery now on mijn.afk.nl with a one-year glass+ceramics development plan; have the full application drafted so the 2-week window after a draw is trivial.
    3. Cultuurfonds Ontwikkelbijdrage via voordekunst (≤€5,000, covers apparatuur) — send the pre-application this month for a small kiln or glass equipment; answer in 1 week.
    4. Amarte Ontwikkelbijdrage (€2,750) then Projectbijdrage (€5,500) — rolling; file a dev application ≥7 weeks before a defined experiment (ceramic + glass + light).
    5. Fonds Kwadraat (interest-free ≤€6k, 15 Nov 2026) as the equipment bridge and as the 10% own share for a later Mondriaan Kunstenaar Project; plus put EKWC (summer 2027 call) and Ceramic Brussels in the calendar. Also: ask an institution to put her forward for 3Package Deal and DDA Emerging Talent 2027; decide artist vs designer track before January (Talentontwikkeling opens Jan 2027 and excludes Kunstenaar Start).

Top 3 for the joint venture

    1. Amsterdamse Cultuurlening (€1k–20k, 2%, 6 yrs) — register the JV at KvK as VOF/eenmanszaak, write a one-page business case for kiln + clay printer with quotes, apply via cultuur-ondernemen.nl; add the 75%-discounted C+O coaching.
    2. voordekunst campaign with AFK matchfunding — launch the sister brand by pre-selling the first lamp series (target €8–15k, ~25% matched); D runs the campaign, M supplies the art-line reward tier. Start the voordekunst intake now; campaigns take 6–8 weeks to build.
    3. CAWA test for both + broedplaats with a kiln room — €25 each, portfolio + income proof; then Regeling Vormgeving 2027 (KvK, 20% co-financing) for a documented clay-printing research project, once SCI publishes the reworked 2027 scheme in December.

    F. EU programmes

    • Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs — the one that fits both of them. New entrepreneur = EU permanent resident (non-EU nationals fine if resident 183+ days) planning or having started a business <3 yrs; 1–6 months in a host entrepreneur's company in another EU country, monthly grant (~€1,000–1,100 for Italy). Full research: Business & loans

Funding & cheap capital — ceramics + lighting brand, Amsterdam (researched 2026-09-18)

Honest framing up front: there is no grant that hands a two-person product startup €10k for a kiln. The realistic stack is (a) tax + welfare facilities that cost nothing, (b) 1–2 % culture loans that treat Michelle as an artist, (c) crowdfunding with matchfunding, (d) in-kind studio/kiln access, (e) Bbz if there is no other household income. VC/RVO innovation money is out of scale — said explicitly below.

Details (grouped by what they are)

    A. Free money you already qualify for (tax + welfare)

    7. Tax facilities . Zelfstandigenaftrek €1,200 (still being phased down), startersaftrek €2,123 on top, up to 3× in first 5 yr; needs 1,225 h/yr — keep an hours log from day one. MKB-winstvrijstelling still applies after. KOR: opt out of VAT if turnover ≤€20k this and last calendar year; since 2026 you can leave KOR any time. For a webshop selling to consumers at €150–400 per lamp, KOR helps at the very start, but you lose VAT reclaim on the kiln/printer — do not enrol in KOR before the big equipment purchase; reclaim 21 % on the kiln first, then decide. Legal form: eenmanszaak/VOF gives both partners these deductions (each needs own hours); a BV gives none of them and costs ~€1–2k/yr — VOF is the default at this stage, BV only if an investor appears.

    6. Bbz — the most relevant thing for Dominic right now. Amsterdam runs it via the Sociale Dienst (zelfstandigen@amsterdam.nl; adviespunten in Nieuw-West, Zuidoost, Noord; drop-in Mondays 9–12). Two products: (i) income top-up to bijstand level for a starter for up to 36 months, initially a 0 % loan, settled against actual profit after the fiscal year; (ii) bedrijfskapitaal loan ≤€48,060 (1 Jul 2026 level) at 8 %, plus a voorbereidingskrediet at 0 % that is written off if you don't start. Route: apply for bijstand → ask for a voorbereidingsperiode (≤12 mo, no job-search duty, coaching, business-plan help via Startersloket) → submit plan → viability test (must reach sufficient income within 3 yr) → starter Bbz. Eligibility: lives in Amsterdam, EU citizen (Dominic OK; Michelle needs a valid permit), no other income, household means-tested (Michelle's income counts if they live together — check this first), ≥1,225 h/yr in the business. In a VOF each partner applies separately. Strings: it is welfare — asset test, reporting, repayment if profit exceeds thresholds. Effort: medium; 8–13 week decision. Use krijgikbbz.nl checker first.

    B. Cheap loans that treat this as a creative practice

1 + 2. Cultuur+Ondernemen loans. The Amsterdam variant (with AFK): €1k–20k, 2 %, 6 yr, for durable investments used professionally — instruments, equipment, software, presentation material — explicitly the kiln/printer/webshop category; not for bridging subsidies. National Cultuurlening: same 2 % up to €50k, 10 yr. Eligibility hinges on "demonstrable professional practice": art degree, or a 1-page motivation + external reference (gallery, teacher, curator). Apply in Michelle's name (or a VOF where she is the practising artist); they lend to individuals and organisations. Borrowers also get 75 % off C+O training. Also: Cultuur Opstart Lening — 1 %, ≤3 yr, from €2,500, for new productions/products — a first production run fits; requires ≥50 % own income, deadline 1 July (annual). Effort: business plan + budget + portfolio; decision ~6–8 weeks. Strings: repayment only, no equity.

    3. Fonds Kwadraat. 0 % up to €6k over 3 yr for artists/designers; equipment and website are named uses. From €3k a guarantor for 50 % is required. 5 rounds/yr (next deadline: check fondskwadraat.nl/agenda). Paperwork: passport, CV, budget, portfolio, last tax return. Combinable with Mondriaan Kunstenaar Start.

    8. Qredits. The commercial fallback: 9.95 % fixed, €375–500 closing fee for €5–15k, 1–10 yr, coach included. Needs KVK + business plan + investment plan. Useful only if 1–2 above refuse; roughly 5× the interest cost of C+O. "Microkrediet Nederland" is Qredits' founding foundation, not a separate lender.

32 / 22. Triodos/ASN and ROM InWest start at €50k — not for you. VFF/Innovatiekrediet/WBSO/MIT: engineering-innovation instruments, min tickets €50k+, need investor LOIs or "topsector" novelty. A 3D-printed lamp brand does not qualify; say no and move on.

    C. Grants that fit Michelle as an artist (not the company)

    10. Mondriaan Fonds Kunstenaar Start: €24,900 for 12 months of artistic development incl. materials/equipment; rolling; 1–4 years professionally active, NL-embedded, taxable income ≤€55k; jury weighs artistic quality, then entrepreneurship. This is the single biggest cheque in scope and it pays for the art line, not the lamps — frame the application around the ceramic art practice, with 3D-printed clay as research. Effort high (portfolio + plan), 3-month processing. Comes with C+O mentoring and a Fonds Kwadraat fast lane. 11. Cultuurfonds Ontwikkelbijdrage: ≤€5k once per 3 yr, ceramicists explicitly listed; research, training, equipment for a preparatory phase. Pre-application answered in 1 week, decision in 4. Low effort — do this first. 16 / 17 / 18. Stimuleringsfonds Vormgeving (≤€10k project budgets, 2 rounds in 2026, Startregeling suspended for vormgeving in 2026, oversubscribed) — worth one shot in 2027 with a research angle (e.g. clay-print translucency). DDA Emerging Talent: 3 × €10k, nomination-driven; get on the radar via DDW 2026 and Keep an Eye. Cultuurfonds/FCP "Ambacht" money is for master-apprentice transmission of crafts without formal training, not for a brand; Michelle could be a gezel to an established ceramicist, which is in-kind training, not cash.

    D. Crowdfunding (this is your validation and your first €5–15k)

    4. voordekunst. Dutch reward platform, 82 % success (vs Kickstarter ~36 %). Matchfunding: Cultuurfonds Noord-Holland contributes up to €750 (blog says "up to €750"; their scheme sheet says €250–1,500, max 50 % of goal, min goal €1k) paid only if the campaign succeeds; AFK is C+O's partner, check whether AFK matchfunding is open for creative industry when you launch. Best for the art line / a first collection; NL donors, Dutch-language page, low tech-risk expectations. 5. Kickstarter. Lamps are a proven category; comparable design-lamp campaigns (Kickstarter blocks scraping, figures from search snippets): Just Another Lamp by MOS (Barcelona) — €11,167 from 78 backers; Slatewood Lamp Collection — $15,916 / 46 backers; LUMINARK (3D-printed lamps) — $25,220 / 368 backers and a 2.0 at $19,481; Game D-Lights (Meeple Keepers, 2025) €5k goal funded; outliers Lumio $578k, Pure Forms desk lamp $309k. Clay-printer campaigns (ClayXYZ, StoneFlower) funded — the audience understands "3D-printed ceramic". A porcelain lamp (Fú Lamp, studioiiid, Linglong porcelain) ran successfully but I could not verify its total. Realistic target for you: €8–15k with 60–120 backers at €120–250 tiers. Strings: 5 % platform + ~3–5 % payment fees, all-or-nothing, delivery risk on kiln capacity. Do it after the render+ads test proves CPC/CTR, and use the ad audience as the launch list.

    E. In-kind: studio, kiln, printer

    14. Rent kiln time before buying one. Amsterdam open-studio memberships: Patty Schilder €160/mo (8 half-days, 2 kilns, firing €4.50/kg bisque, €6/kg glaze), Studio FICO €60/mo, The Clay Room, Clay Ceramic Studio (De Pijp), Studio Pansa, Keramiek Atelier Amsterdam. Cool Clay Collective (Rotterdam, Gantelstraat 14) is artist-run with large kilns — ask about residency/printer access. 13. CAWA test → broedplaats studio capped at €310/mo ; apply via Makelpunt; Contact Amsterdam has CAWA studios listed. Michelle qualifies on portfolio + ≥24 h/wk + low income; the 10-year turnover rule was scrapped in 2026 so supply is tighter — apply early. 15. Waag FabLab free open Thursdays (machines by the hour); Makerversity Amsterdam for laser/3DP prototyping of lamp hardware. Printer sponsorship: VormVrij (LUTUM, Dutch) and WASP have no published artist programme; both do case-study/“ambassador” deals — pitch a documented project in exchange for a demo unit or discount; Eazao ships cheap desktop units (€1–2k) if you self-fund. 3D-printing the clay is also your cheapest kiln-independent validation (print → fire at a member studio).

    F. EU and mobility

    9. EYE. Dominic (any age; "new entrepreneur" = <3 yr trading or a solid plan) can spend 1–6 months in a host's ceramics/lighting studio: €1,000/mo in Italy, €900 Spain, €850 Portugal, €830 NL (June 2024 unit costs). NL local contact points: Selego BV (Amsterdam), Quarter Mediation (Utrecht), Saxion (Enschede), Van der Vliet (Lierop). Business plan required; grant only covers time abroad. Strong fit: production know-how (slip-casting in Nove/Faenza, Caldas da Rainha) plus supplier contacts, at zero cost to the venture. 20 WORTH is over (WORTH II 2021–25, final report Jul 2025; no 2026 call). 19 EIT C&C Shape (≤€100k, deadline 12 Oct 2026) is limited to architecture/AV/fashion this round — home decor is out until at least 2027. Creative Europe, Interreg: organisations/consortia only.

    G. Italy / other countries — honest read

Registering in Italy to chase Invitalia is not worth it. Resto al Sud requires moving residence to the South within 120 days. ON – Nuove imprese a tasso zero needs Italian HQ, >50 % under-35/women partners (Michelle 23 qualifies), and its grant component is exhausted — from 1 Jul 2026 it is loan-only. Smart&Start needs €50k proven funds and a tech thesis. Fondo Nuove Competenze funds employers' training, not founders. Portugal Startup Visa / Spain Ley de Startups are residency instruments, not money, and require scalable-tech framing. Net: stay in NL; the NL cultural-loan + Bbz + crowdfunding stack is better than anything a paper Italian company would unlock, and an Italian SRL costs €2–3k/yr to run.

    H. Competitions and programmes — where to spend an evening, not a month

DDA Emerging Talent (3 × €10k, 2027 cycle), Keep an Eye (€10k, academy-linked), Creative Business Cup NL (legal entity; find the 2027 national partner via cbnet.com — national round usually spring/summer), Boost je Buurt 2027 (free programme, €2.5–7.5k prizes, needs a neighbourhood angle — e.g. open studio evenings in Noord), Rabobank Circular Economy Challenge (regional coaching programme, no cash; a "recycled clay / local glaze" story would fit), Startup in Residence (only if a city challenge matches — circular products sometimes does). Antler, Founders Institute, ROM InWest, Fashion for Good, Sociale Handelsmissie: not a fit, skip.

    Staged funding stack

€0 (this month): register VOF at KVK (~€80), hours log, opt out of KOR until equipment is bought; render + €300 of ads for demand signal; Cultuurfonds Ontwikkelbijdrage pre-application (Michelle); kiln time at Studio FICO (€60/mo) for physical samples; Waag Thursday for lamp-hardware prototypes; Dominic: krijgikbbz check → bijstand + voorbereidingsperiode request; Michelle: CAWA test application; EYE registration with Selego.

    €5k: Fonds Kwadraat €3–6k (0 %) + Cultuurfonds €5k (if awarded) → desktop clay printer (~€2k) + slip-cast moulds + Shopify/webshop + pre-order landing page. Ads scaled to €1k using the data. Michelle submits Mondriaan Kunstenaar Start.

€15k: voordekunst campaign (€6–10k goal, Cultuurfonds NH match) or Kickstarter (€10–15k) for the first lamp run, launched to the ad audience; Amsterdamse Cultuurlening €10–15k at 2 % for the kiln + studio deposit once pre-orders show sell-through; Bbz bedrijfskapitaal only as a backstop (8 %). Qredits only if C+O declines.

Five actions this month (Sep 18 – Oct 18, 2026)

    1. Email zelfstandigen@amsterdam.nl / run krijgikbbz.nl: book a Bbz intake for Dominic and ask for a voorbereidingsperiode — this gives a funded planning runway.
    2. Michelle files the Cultuurfonds Ontwikkelbijdrage pre-application (≤€5k, 1-week answer) and the CAWA atelier test on Makelpunt.
    3. Email thijs@cultuur-ondernemen.nl with a one-page plan + portfolio to pre-check Amsterdamse Cultuurlening eligibility (art degree vs. reference route) — get the answer before buying anything.
    4. Register Dominic with Selego BV (Amsterdam LCP) for EYE; shortlist 3 host studios in Nove/Faenza/Caldas da Rainha for a Jan–Mar 2027 stay.
    5. Book one open-studio month (Studio FICO €60 or Patty Schilder €160), print/fire 3 lamp samples, shoot them, and run the €300 ad test that decides voordekunst vs Kickstarter and the size of the loan ask.
